CORROSION INHIBITING ADMIXTURE FOR CONCRETE

DESCRIPTION:

ProHibit CNI is a ready to use aqueous solution of 30%calcium nitrite which chemically inhibits corrosion of steel embedded in concrete. 

USES:

ProHibit CNI is recommended for corrosion protection of steel reinforcement, post tensioned strands and prestressed strands embedded in concrete which is exposed to chlorides.  Typical applications include concrete structures exposed to marine environments (such as bridges, piers, docks and sea walls) as well as structures built in cold climates where de-icing salts are used (such as bridge decks and parking garages).

ADVANTAGES:

·        Increases early compressive and flexural strengths

DOSAGE RATE:

ProHibit CNI is recommended for use at a dosage rate of 2.0 to 6.0 gallons per cubic yard (10 to 30 L/ cu. meter) of concrete, dependent upon the degree of chloride exposure and level of corrosion protection desired.  Refer to the project specifications to determine the chloride concentration and dosage rate of calcium nitrite required.  The table on the back of this data sheet can be used as a guide for determining ProHibit CNI dosage rates.  Please contact your Pro Mix technical sales representative for further assistance.

COMPATIBILITY:

ProHibit CNI is compatible with all types of Portland cement, class C and F fly ash, slag, silica fume, fibers, Pro Mix air entraining admixtures, water reducers and retarders.  For best results, each admixture must be dispensed separately into the concrete mix. 

PRECAUTIONS:

Do not dispense directly onto dry cement.

Adjust mix water to compensate for the water added as a part of the admixture dosage rate.  Allow 7.0 lbs. or 0.85 gallons of water per gallon of ProHibit CNI added to the mix.

Be aware that calcium nitrite is a set accelerator and will reduce set times and slump life.  Addition of a water-reducing retarder, such as Plastimix 100R, can be helpful, especially in hot weather.

STORAGE:

ProHibit CNI may freeze at temperatures below 6F (-14 C).  If frozen, ProHibit CNI can be thawed and thoroughly agitated and its corrosion inhibition capabilities will be completely restored.
