ProFilm 19

Evaporation Reducer

DESCRIPTION:

ProFilm 19 is a water-based, VOC compliant spray-on liquid evaporation reducer for application over fresh concrete surfaces.  By forming a continuous mono-molecular film over the concrete surface, ProFilm 19 retards the loss (evaporation) of surface moisture.

APPLICATIONS:

To retard surface drying (moisture loss) of fresh (plastic) concrete pavements, decks, slabs, walks, aprons, floors, dry shakes and toppings.  ProFilm 19 is especially useful in hot, windy, low humidity situations where rapid surface evaporation can result in plastic shrinkage cracking, crusting, crazing, dusting and poor quality of the concrete surface. ProFilm 19 also enhances the finishing characteristics of concrete flatwork and is excellent as a finishing aid.

ADVANTAGES:

·  Retards moisture loss and drying of freshly placed concrete surfaces.

·  Enhances finishing procedures by providing adequate lubrication.

·  Retards the effects of low relative humidity and wind.

·  Eliminates or reduces surface “crusting” and  concrete sponginess.

·  Helps prevent map cracking and plastic shrinkage.

·  Promotes superior concrete surfaces.

PRODUCT USE:

Dilution/Mixing: Take ProFilm 19 concentrate directly from container and dilute at the ratio of 1: 9, meaning 1 part ProFilm 19 to  9 parts of water.  Mix/agitate thoroughly to uniformly distribute the solids in the mixture.  For larger quantities, add    5-gallons (18.9 liter) of ProFilm 19 concentrate to a clean 55-gal. (208 liter) drum, then add 45 gal. (170 liter) of water and mix thoroughly.

Application:   ProFilm 19 forms a mono-molecular film the over the plastic concrete surface when appied immediately after screeding and/or between finishing operations (as needed).  Using a hand or power sprayer, spray ProFilm 19 uniformly over the surface of the plastic concrete until a translucent green sheen appears.  Coverage rate is 200 to 300 sq. ft/gal. (4.9 to 7.4 sq. m/liter).  Under sever drying conditions, reapply as needed.  Normal checking of the concrete for timing of subsequent finishing operations should be maintained since ProFilm 19 will not retard the setting characteristics of the concrete.  ProFilm 19 may also be spray applied during finishing operations as a finishing aid.

SPECIFICATIONS:

The use of a mono-molecular film to prevent rapid drying of fresh concrete is recommended in the following ACI documents: ACI 305R, “Hot Weather Concreting”; ACI 302.1R, “Guide for Concrete Floor and Slab Construction”; ACI 308, “Standard Practice for Curing Concrete”; and ACI 345R, “Guide for Concrete Highway Bridge Deck Construction”.

STORAGE:

ProFilm 19 should be protected from freezing tempertures.

PACKAGING:

ProFilm 19 is supplied in 1-gal. (3.6 liter) jugs (4 jugs per case), 5-gal. (18.9 liter) pails, and 55-gal. (208 liter) drums.

LIMITATIONS:

ProFilm 19 is not suitable for use as a surface retarder for producing exposed aggregate surfaces. Do not use ProFilm 19 as a curing compound.

TECHNICAL NOTE:

According to ACI 305, Hot Weather Concrete, plastic shrinkage cracking of concrete is probable whenever the evaporation rate exceeds 0.2 lbs./sq. ft./hr. (1.0 Kg/sq. m/hr.).  Many combinations of air temperature, relative humidity, concrete temperature, and wind velocity can produce evaporation rate that exceed exceeds 0.2 lbs./sq. ft./hr. (1.0 Kg/sq. m/hr.).  See figure 2.1.5 of the guide for a detailed nomograph.  Below are some examples of environmental factors and the resulting evaporation rate.

Use ProFilm 19 any time the evaporation rate exceeds 0.2 lbs./sq. ft./hr. (1.0 Kg/sq. m/hr.) or when the slab begins to crust.  ProFilm 19 will not chemically retard the set of concrete or concrete surfaces.
